'Head Over Heels' Mission Statement

The second single to be lifted from my debut album 'Stand & Deliver' comes at an extremely competitive time in regards to releasing new material, especially on an Independent record label. The Christmas market will now be awash with high-profile artists and record companies, each pushing with financial clout and ruthless objective. That coveted Christmas Number 1 spot. I know for someone in my position, it's like a minnow swimming in an ocean of sharks, but to be honest, the only reward I seek from releasing this song is, a multi-million euro record contract, a sell-out World tour and all the fame an ego can handle. ...well, not really.

But what I do hope for, like any other artist in my position, is at least a little respect and possibly half a chance to have my music heard. "Just one chance!" as Sir William Wallace so inspiringly requested. The thing that's so disheartening and financially crippling in this industry, is that unfortunately the chance never comes. I suppose if the material is good enough it should stand up on its own feet, but there was once a time that I was naive enough to believe that. And knowing now through experience that our Radio stations and press are somewhat obligated to regurgitated endless portions of absolute muck, otherwise known as "Manufactured Music" in exchange for money is enough to leave a bad taste in anyone’s mouth, let alone our ears.

And to think, I promised myself I would try not become a cynic too early in life. Perhaps it's all part and parcel, and what doesn't break you will make you. Who knows. I suppose I could always audition for the next series of X-Factor if all else fails. You can probably detect the slight hint of sarcasm in my tone by now.

I guess the reason I'm sitting here writing this, is because I'm genuinely appealing to all the ones in positions of power, Journalists, Disc-Jockeys and the like, with a good sense of what is right and wrong. The ones who have managed to maintain their integrity and original focus that once inspired them to chase their own dreams and aspirations. The ones who haven't allowed the prospect of fame, fortune and opportunism to blind them from their true goals. Well here's an opportunity for you. Please support what is honest-to-goodness genuine and sincere. Something that is abundant in Ireland but never really celebrated nor appreciated. And that is Independent Music.

There are thousands of exceptionally talented writers and performers in our country that never get the recognition they deserve, and the difference between success and failure is determined by the amount of money you can afford to throw at your dream.

Well my dream is fast becoming a financial nightmare of sorts... The Nightmare Before Christmas you could say. But nevertheless, I'm not in a position to complain, in fact, that's not my intention with this 'Mission Statement' at all. I'm here to plug my CD. To put turkey on my plate for Christmas. Maybe even a Brussels sprout or two.

So, on the 14th December if buying cd's isn't your thing, there's a good chance I'll be giving away copies of my single for free. All you Independent artists out there will relate to this when I tell you I'm building up too much of a collection of tea coasters around the house. Very expensive coasters mite I add. It's a good job there's a lot of tea drinkers in my house!

Right, with that said, I sincerely want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

P.S.

'Head Over Heels' will be Available to but in:
ALL 'Heartbeat City' Stores throughout the midlands.
Through my website www.paddyslattery.com
Online at www.outersounds.ie

Paddy

TYPE-aholic me.

Shur I suppose I better update me auld blog! The weeks are just zipping by, and already the Christmas clock is counting down. Crazy innit. But I have to be honest…I’ve been so busy, and don’t quite feel I really got a proper summer holiday so I’m actually looking forward to the Crimbo! The year has flown by so unbelievably fast tho, it’s absurd. Nevertheless… all is well thank god, and it’s been, as it always is, a time filled with extraordinary highs and lows.

Anyways, enough of the deep thinking mood. My brains so over-run with thoughts and ideas I’m beginning to feel emotionally exhausted. Yes, poor poor me. Lol ah no, seriously tho… I better let ye know what’s been going on in the ‘Paddy Camp’ of late. Exciting news be waits. Kinda…

Stage Production
Our play, ‘Good Heavens’ has now been cast, and rehearsals and production is finally on the way. We’ve got less than 2 months now to pull it all together for two opening nights on 18th and 19th of November in the Tullamore Court Hotel (I‘ll put up a proper promo of the Event on my website as soon as all the finer details have been confirmed.) Also, during the week I’ll release the full details of our wonderful cast. Some local, some not so local. But all entirely committed and passionate about the characters they will play, which is a huge relief for me. I’m not expecting many nights sleep between now and November, so at least this puts my mind at ease.

Music News
Also, myself and Sigma Productions (.ie) are putting final touches on a Music Video for my song ‘Head over Heels’ which will be released in Early November. The single will include the Video, and a b-side cover of Paul Brady’s song ‘The Island’. I’m really excited about this because myself and my band hope to have a few gigs along the way to promote it. Which is always great fun. I’m also looking forward to hearing the song feature on an advert for an ADHD Awareness Campaign which will be broadcast on National Television and Radio in October. Exciting times indeed. It’s such an honor tho, and in many ways, a dream come true to be shown such great respect for my music by an organization with great integrity. I finally feel like we’re been rewarded for all our endless hours of hard work and commitment. Happy days!!

We haven’t been gigging much lately, because I’ve been so preoccupied with the stage production, but hopefully over the next few weeks I’ll be able to find a happy medium and have the best of both worlds. I’m beginning to miss the live performing.

Telly Box News
October will see the continuation of Duncan Stewarts series ‘About the House’ on RTE 1 every Tuesday Night at 8.30pm. So look out for yours truly during some of the episodes, as we discuss the new initiative of Universal Design, which highlights the importance of accessibility in all modern designed buildings in Ireland. You may also see the new recording studio I’m in the process of building, accompanied by a physical therapy unit. It’s an ambition project I have to admit, but one that will assure my future in both areas of importance in my life. My physical health, and potential career in film and music. (Just livin the dream folks…livin the dream) J

You know, there’s a quote that inspires me, and I don’t know where I heard it before, or if I just conjured it up to justify my crazy actions, but it goes like this… “If you can dream it, you can be it.” I firmly believe that. Aim high. Dream deep. Or something like that. And I’m becoming all philosophical now, but for good reason. Because although it may seem I’m spoiling myself with great luxuries, I’m really working hard and digging deep to realize these goals. And that’s what it takes. You really get nothing in life for free, and to truly feel rewarded, you must first sacrifice time and energy. And that’s what I’m doing. Once these dreams don’t turn into nightmares tho… that wouldn’t be pleasant. Haha. Ok ok, I’m ranting again.
Actually, I’ve been ranting a lot lately. And for real proof of that please check out my profile www.myspace.com/paddyslattery I can’t seem to turn the switch off. Just writing line after line of poetry and lyrics, so I’ve uploaded some of them on that site. Right, I better round up the blog, it’s getting early again. Before I know it the sun’ll be coming back up. Tsk tsk Old habits die hard.

Before I shut up fully tho, I wanna thank all the 6th years students of Portarlington secondary School in Co. Laois for putting up with my big-arsed lecture and woeful singing. My throat was met across. Arghhhh… But it was great fun and I look forward to being back next year.

And also thank you to all the gang at Cork Radio RED FM for their powerful ‘Break The Cycle’ Road Safety Campaign which it was an honor being a part of.

Okay, enough enough already…….. Upload this and go the feckin bed ya rantin eejit!

Nite all,
Peaceeeee

Paddy

YOU RIPPED MY ART RIGHT OUT!!!

Today, the 30th August, 2007, the tabloids… ALL of them have published a ‘Nadine and Jessie’ story about a tattoo he just got done on his arm depicting a girl dragging a heart towards a sunset. And titling it ‘broken art’.

The reason I’m mentioning this is because a few people are after bringing this image to my attention, and to my disappointment, the image is almost a complete replica of an image I designed for my upcoming single ‘Head over Heels’ titled ‘Broken He…’ and Illustrated by my artist friend Cedric Chu.

Our image also depicts a guy, dragging a heart towards a sunset. A completely original concept, with a deep symbolic reference attached. But I’m afraid the situation now puts us in a position of looking as though we just ripped off that guys image, since everyone will have seen him with it first.

You know what… I’m just gonna say one thing. Fuck it! It’s just typical I guess. But anyways… if anyone does happen to know what image I’m talking about, and think, after seeing mine that they both look similar, I can assure you, with a Copyright for proof, that we did not take any inspiration from his image.

Case dismissed.

I am pissed off tho!!

A Close Shave.......

Yeah, got me head shaved. Spur of the moment kind of decision, but I'm delighted I did. I feel two stone lighter, but probably look two stone heavier. Oh well... I do admit tho, it feels very liberating, and I no longer have to bother with pulling my hair out of my ears in bed, nor having to rake the knots out of it in the morning. A massive load off my mind to say the least! And yes, that pun was intended, however unfunny it was. haha. I enjoyed it anyways. Ah, I'm such a selfish git really.

Well now, where am I goin with this blog. Let me see...
Ah yes, we were at Damien Rice's Marley Park gig Saturday. Twas absolutely brilliant, and a great day throughout. The man is as captivating live as he is on cd. Which is not surprising, considering how raw and intensifying his sound comes across on his albums. Beautiful and haunting, fearless and savage, is how I would describe his music. What an inspirational talent. I hope I can produce quality with as much substance and integrity one day. Yay oh I strive...

Weather has perked itself up a bit, and just in time for the Tullamore Fleagh! The town has been alive with music agus craic for the past two weeks from musicians all across Ireland and the far corners of the globe. The atmosphere was great. I was fortunate enough to be invited to play at Loughreys Sunday night, accompanied by Mark Conway, and Donal Keys, who's a great flute player. Really enjoyed it. The buzz was electric and the crowds loved it. Happy days... looking forward to next year already!

This coming Sunday is the 35th anniversary Steam Trashing in my hometown of Clonbullogue. Hopefully the sun will come out to play with us. Unfortunately I've to sneak away early tho from the celebrations because the auditions for my Stage Production 'Good Heavens' is being held in Tullamore later that day. I'm kinda raging the days are clashing, but nevermind. We'll still have a great weekend regardless.

Ok... I think that's all me goss to date. I'm bizarrely feeling sick with flu-like symptoms the last couple of days, which is strange, considering the beautiful weather, but hopefully I'll be back to myself soon. I rather enjoy having an excuse to take things easy, especially since my "paddy-wagon" is off the road and in a garage for a few days. A long story which I better not get in to, for legal reasons. ;o)

Right... thats it from me for a nudder while.

Hope all are keeping well and enjoying the twilight of our Summer!!

chat soon,
Paddy

Thunder and Frightening!

..........IF you're a sissy of course!

But not I says the P. We had the baddest ass lightening and thunder storm EVER to hit Clonbullogue last night, and I feckin loved it. Even though my computer practically blew up as I was typing on it. And mine wasn't the only one apparently. Quazzie, my mates also exploded with what he explains as a big fireball the size of a fist appearing between his monitor and his hard drive. How cool is that! Providing you dont get electrocuted of course. House and car alarms went off, and TV Satellites are down for a few days. Global Warning? Hmmm... Who needs the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' when you've got big living room windows eh... Good old mother nature flexing her mussels again. What an amazing and beautiful thing. I guess the lesson to be learned here is respect for ones planet. We think we're all powerful and mighty, until a wee occurrence like this just reminds us of how vulnerable and miniscule we actually are, in physical terms I mean.

Anywho, I think it's now fair to say with confidence that we can concede any further notion of a possible summer. The weather has been phenomenally miserable, and even from my usually "optimistic artistic naturalistic" perspective, it's still difficult to find the beauty in it all. Like many people are saying, it's a grand mild winter we're having out there. Talk about being an eternal optimist. I admire that kind of reasoning. Lets just see how well we handle the next 6 to 8 months of winter weather. God, I think we'll all be looking for a holiday. And as I say that, the Sun, cheekily glares in my window, with what seems like a mere cameo appearance in our day. Sunday me hole.

Okay, news.

MUSIC
Shooting a music video for the forthcoming single release of 'Head Over Heels' this week. Really looking forward to it. We've auditioned many great actors and the concept of the video is very interesting and one that I'm excited about, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. Sigma Productions (www.sigmaproductions.ie) are at the helm of production duties and it's a real pleasure working with a like-minded creative thinking company.

STAGE
Also this week I'll be hosting, with the help of Mary Dunne (highly acclaimed stage Director in the Midlands) auditions for our Stage Production of 'GOOD HEAVENS' which opens in November. More information will be updated on this project over the coming weeks, but if you happen to be interested in coming down for the open auditions, they'll be held in Tullamore's Historical Centre on Tuesday from 11am, and on Wednesday in Portlaois, St. Peter and Pauls Church from 11am. Not only can you audition for a part, but a role behind the scenes too. ie. Production duties. (To save me from boring you with details here, please email me with any queries and I'll be happy to fill you in.) Muchos gratcious!

MUSIC
I've a meeting this week too with MAFIA Promotions founder, Darren Lynch, who will be assisting me is organizing a Nationwide "tour" over the next couple of months to promote the release of 'Head Over Heels' So, HOPEFULLY myself and my groovin band will be hitting a venue near you soon. We're aiming for a mid-October single release, so if we're going to be gigging, it'll be spread over that time frame. If you've any suggestions or offers for venues or even Support slots please do get in touch. I'd really love to actually be on the road touring once and for all. Twud be a dream come true. Especially now that our band has grown in confidence with our show and the feedback is positive.

I'll reveal the single track list very soon, but for now, all I can say is, this is not going to be just an ordinary single release which offers nothing more than one b-side and a sample for Album promotion. This 'Head Over Heels' package is going to be full of audible and visual goodies, and I'm only going to manufacture a certain amount, so I guess this side-project will also be a limited physical edition. I'm really looking forward to it, and with the help of karma, and blessings of Irish luck, I really hope this goes well. The last thing my mom wants is another big box load of cd's gathering dust in my wardrobe. :o/ Haha, oh the joys of being an Independent Record Label. I'll be flat broke by Christmas. Hmm.. *touch wood* Nevermind... Whatever becomes, I'm still enjoying the ride. Tis great craic and what a great position to be in. Enuff bout the H.O.H. project. ;o)

Some more innntresting news.

MEDIA

I will be featuring in Duncan Stewart's show 'About The House' very soon. Filming begins in two weeks time. They will be tackling the issues of accessibility. I think they're also taking an interest in the building of my recording studio and new physio treatment area, and how I, as a musician with a physical disability accesses venues, stages etc. Well, I hope they cover all the aspects of accessibility, cause it really needs to be highlighted. Anywho, that's going out on RTE in Autumn I think, but I'll confirm that in the coming weeks.

HEALTH
Feeling ok..... slowly but surely returning to my old self. Haven’t drank alcohol in a couple of months now, and have cleaned up my eating habits ie. Hot Indian/Chinese, so please god I continue to improve. It's been too long since I've actually felt physically good. So, bring on the good health. I miss it, as much as I miss the sun. Alas, I think it's back raining again. Blah..

I think that's all the jibber jabber I can spew for now, but thanks for taking the time to check out my goings on, and I'll be back on me bloggin soon, hopefully.
It's all about hope really. But 'hope is the denial of reality'?? Bulllshit. (never believe them fortune cookies)

Take care
Paddy
