| Happy S.A.D. Anniversary! |
One momentous year later, Yup yup, I've just been reminded by my "Official #1 Fan" Caoimhe haha (refer to booklet tributes section) ....that today is the first anniversary of my album launch!!! (refer to first blog entry) ........AS IF I could forget. ;o) Yes, the thought has crossed my mind, and in fact I was planning on having a quiet mini-celebration tonight with a good DVD and a bunch of grapes! (my new health regime ya see) Followed by a few reflective moments spent sitting out under the stars. (Provided we get a clear sky that is) But be-jeebus, what a year it's been! On the music side of things it's been an amazing journey, of self-discovery moreso. But the countless new friends I've made and experiences I've had along the way have been inspiring and life altering to say the least. And long may this journey continue. On a personal note tho, the year has been a rollercoaster of extreme emotional highs and lows. A thoroughly fulfilling year yes, and rewarding, but very exhausting at the same time. Which justifies why I've been so physically drained these last few weeks. Your health is certainly your wealth, and that's for certain. Nevertheless, hopefully I can regain my strength and maintain some sort of physical and emotional balance if I expect to be living my life at such a forward pace. I guess this is one of the sacrifices of chasing a dream, but the many lessons to be learned during the whole process is what makes it all worth while. Like I've said before, and I'll say it again, I've been privileged with such an amazing adventurous life, backed by the most loyal and supportive family and friends which is just a blessing in itself! I won't bore you by going through every highlight of the last year... Instead, I'll invite you to browse through my blog archives whenever you have some time to kill. I'm going to do just that after I submit this entry, and try put all those moments into perspective and move on, hopefully a wiser more traveled soul. I have to ask myself an important question too. Which is this... Has 'Stand and Deliver' achieved all I had hoped and imagined? And initially I would have answered no. Because it hasn't sold x-ammount, and it hasn't kicked down doors nor pulled down barriers nor had much of an impact on our social conscience and prejudices. They're the obvious outcomes that determine a records 'greatness' in the eyes of many. And that in itself hit my ego hard if I'm being completely honest. But then again... Stripping all that material value away, and getting back to the route purpose of the album. I would have to reconsider my answer and wholeheartedly conclude that this 'Stand and Deliver' project has been an amazing success. An absolute dream come true. I mean, just on a personal level. The realization of the seemingly impossible being turned from a passing thought, into the reality of a life altering action. What a gift of experience. And hopefully what an inspiration. Because like all the extraordinary people who inspire me, I hope to have in some way inspired another. And THAT is the success that drives me forward! And yes... I feel I've proved my point, stood up, been counted. A job well done! haha Mission Accomplished. Well, I guess I'll be daring and hope the next year is just as eventful, yet I'm also being careful of what I wish for. But I do wish my album a long life of keen listenership, and with the promise of positive things to come in the near future, who knows where it may take me. Once again, thank you to everyone for the support and encouragement over the last year, and for taking this journey with me! love n respect, Paddy xx Posted by paddy slattery on 29 June 2007 at 10:33 |

| I played Croke Park!! |
(and not too many musicians can say that) lol Hi all, I've been threatening to update my blog a while now... I suppose I better write something or it'll be back on the long finger for another couple of weeks. Its been a heavy emotional journey, with some ups, followed by extreme downs, so I apologize if this update seems void of any optimistic enthusiasm. I've been in Cyprus with my brother Thomas, which was obviously one of the high points. Ayia Napa is where we stayed, and it was truly paradise with amazing weather and breath-taking scenery. The food was also delicious, and oh do I love my food. ;o) We were there for the disastrous Champions League Final where Liverpool got beat. But hey, I'm not bitter. I just didn't appreciate the referee wearing a Milan jersey underneath his own. Anyways, never mind... Next year we'll reap our revenge on the soccer world. The ESB savagely cut down trees at the end of my garden too, so they could erect one little electricity pole which was well out of range of the branches. The damn fools. I'm sure their ignorance denies them any realization of the damage they've caused and probably haven't given it a second thought, but the next time a chainsaw-wielding demolition-happy gobshite comes in on my property I'll cut his fucking balls off! And in other news... MUSIC NEWS Yesterday myself and the band, Mark Conway, Josh Johnston, Elton Mulally and Aiden O Grady played a gig in Croke Park. (yup, tis true. I did not dream it.) ...to a packed out Conference Center. It was a pretty mind blowing venue, which played host to a two day International C.I.L. Conference, marking the 15th anniversary of the Center for Independent Living movement. It was truly an honor being invited to the event and a great pleasure performing too in front of my peers. This Friday 8th we will be playing a support gig for Daves Radio in The Bridge House in Tullamore. Really looking forward to that... Especially to Daves set. They've got some bangin tunes and always put on a great show! Myself and Sigma Productions are going to make a music video for 'Head over Heels' Track 4 on the Album. And I'm considering giving it a full commercial release. So watch this space. To see some of Sigma's latest 'Passion Lounge' Recordings please check out www.myspace.com/sigmaproductions and finally... I want to express my sorrow and anguish at the loss of my cousin and great friend Michael 'Slick' Quinn who passed away recently. The world will never be the same without you! Everyone loves and misses you so much! Thank you for all the memories and inspiration. Michael Quinn 1980 - 2007 R.I.P. Posted by paddy slattery on 07 June 2007 at 10:41 |
| Blues Headlines (Chelsea dig!) ;) |
| Hi all, Great, great news, which isn't really news anymore, but certainly worth a mention. Liverpool (Greatest Football club in the Universe) are through to the Champions League Final, yet AGAIN. Oh, they're so amazing! Obviously they beat Chelsea and made me a nice little fortune in bets in the process, which I'm still waiting to be paid, lads!. Tho, I think I'll be waiting. But how n' ever, the victory is reward enough! Music News Myself and the band, Mark, Josh, Elton and Aidan have had a wild experience in Charlaville Castle last Saturday night, for the 'Fire in Mouth' festival. Really enjoyed it, and the venue was amazing to say the least. There’s some nice pictures of the event in the Offaly Express this week, check um out! Also, the charity gig in the Rugby Club went very well. Great crowd turnout, so loads and loads of dosh raised I'm sure. Marissa Faye, organizer of the night deserves many congratulations for her efforts. Twas a great night for all involved. This Sunday night we're back in Loughreys for what promises to be a highly entertaining Open-Mic Session. Band line-ups to be confirmed, but myself Mark and Josh will be there for sure. It's free in, so get down early for a good seat. Other News I'm off to Co. Clare for two nights next week to do some lectures for Transition Year students. High lighting the importance of Road Safety, Disability Awareness, Mental Health and Well-being issues, as well as encouraging self-confidence and belief. In other words, I'm going to talk shyte for a few hours and get paid for it. Hmmm, what a privileged position to be in. ;o) But, on a serious note, it really is a great honour to be asked to speak in Schools around the country promoting things that are close to my heart, and I want to thank Spinal Injuries Ireland for recommending me to these schools. I hope I don't let ye down. Speaking of S.I.I. I've also been chosen as the front cover of the NRH Annual Report Magazine 2007, which looks pretty cool, with 4 wonderful pages of an article inside. So thank you Rosemarie for your constant support and kind, finely crafted words! (To request a hardback copy of this Magazine, please email me at paddy@paddyslattery.com) Massive thank you to MID 103fm and Ricey Scully for yet another brilliant Thursday night Live show from Ned's Bar in Ballinagar. It was a pleasure singing Paul Brady's song 'The Island' once again. Myself and my brother are off to Ayia Napa in Cyprus next week for an early sunny holiday before what plans to be a busy working summer ahead. So as soon as I'm back I plan on committing fulltime to the upcoming Stage production of 'Good Heavens' and our travel Documentary. So, exciting times lay ahead. Thanks everyone for the constant support and kind words about the album. I'm really glad it's still getting spins on cd players and not gathering dust. Roll on Stand and Deliver 2(The Sequel) haha.... El Poem In keeping with the aptly titled blog entry, I'd like to share a poem I wrote yesterday, inspired by a photograph taken by my good friend Eoghan McConnell in the gardens of Charleville Castle. (Photo uploaded on www.myspace.com/paddyslattery in the Pics section) Feeling Blue as i cast my eyes to the horizon, the blue sky falls to greet you or is it you that rises to meet it? and all the world becomes one, in my present vision one warm blue blanket. wrapped around a cold earth and the sea of blue that grew there then as the woods buds bloom, was the season when... it was in the spring as the birds that sing such a fleeting thought, what a pleasent thing and they say 'love is in the air' when i paint with these colours but like you, the bluebell, this is but a brief sense of calm. for theres a fire burning within. a deep dark sin. that only a sea of bluebells can wash away. and the deep dark woods no longer deep nor dark and the sun is breaking through the new green leaves a burst of beem, broken by the mist and dew rising from your bed a mystical charm, and welcome... if you go down in the woods today! and tomorrow you are gone. and all that remains is the memory. but you'll be back. with what seems like a vengence. and we too will welcome you. the bluebell's ring. and the peace you bring. Thats it, hope you enjoyed. Chat soon, Paddy Posted by paddy slattery on 10 May 2007 at 07:55 |
| NEWS GALORE ..........ish. |
Hi all, Just thought I’d leave a wee update in me blog since it’s been a while. I can’t really say I’ve been busy over the last few weeks, but I am happy to say I’m back writing loads of songs and poetry which is a big relief to my brain. If ya get my meaning. Of course it’s a real deep and personal thing for me, but it’s also a great form of mental therapy, and I’ve had a ton of shit I needed to get off my chest anyways. So yes, that’s mainly what I’ve been up to. Music Our gig in ’De Bruins’ went well. If we’d known we’d be entertaining 80 girls for a hen-party I dare say our set-list would have been a bit less melancholy but nevertheless, if felt great playing again with Mark Conway, and the crowd reactions were awesome. Plus we got a few more gigs organized on the back of it, so all’s good. Another fundraising gig this Saturday 28th in ‘The Rugby Club’ in Tullamore, so looking forward to that, and once again sharing the stage with Daves Radio, Mark Hogan and my lads Josh Johnston and Mark Conway This June 5th we’ll be doing a full band gig in Dublin, for an International C.I.L. conference, tickets costing no less than 180euros! Rolling Stones tickets aren’t THAT price for god sake, but there’ll be a few hundred in attendance including our very own President Mary McAleese apparently. So, needless to say, this should be an interesting gig. Better buy a new hat for this one! ;o) Sigma Productions have uploaded videos of The Passion Lounge on their website http://www.myspace.com/sigmaproductions http://www.youtube.com/SigmaProductions So if you get a chance please check us out and feel free to spread tha word around! Documentary Update Speaking of Sigma Productions… I will be filming a documentary/interview for ’Current TV’ with them, and making a short promo video for the World Trip docu too, so stay tuned for more news on that in the coming weeks. Charity Single News And finally, I’ve had the privilege today of presenting a cheque worth 2,000 euros even, to ’Oak Partnership’ in conjunction with our fundraising efforts for Suicide Prevention with Rita Kelly of A.S.I.S.T. (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) All money raised will be going towards Mental Health and Well-being programs, and this donation in particular will provide much needed support for the Youth Center being set up by Oak Partnership in Edenderry, Co. Offaly. So, once again, I owe a great deal of thanks to all who have supported my debut single ‘Breakdown’ and hopefully we’ll all collaborate in future fundraising events in the not do distant future! Thank you so much! That’s about all my news for now, so do stay tuned… And one more thing……………….. C’MON LIVERPOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *ahem* Apologies for that wee outburst. Can hardly contain my excitement. ;o) Adios amigos, Paddy xx Posted by paddy slattery on 24 April 2007 at 11:18 |
| R T E-heeeeee News.... |
Hi all, Gotta admit, I'm all typed out lately, with projects, emails, and even poetry and songs, so I'm gonna neglect my blog rantage slightly and update you guys in brief. MUSIC NEWS Gig in 'The Stables' was really enjoyable, and myself and the lads in the band really gelled. My confidence is growing on stage, and I think our audience could see that. What a rush tho. I love it. Hopefully we'll be back there soon, and perhaps pull in a bit of a crowd, because the atmosphere there is special. Also our gig in 'Loughreys' went well, and thank you everyone for your support. What a buzz! MEDIA NEWS Just been interviewed for a show called 'POBAL TV' which is being aired at 5.15pm on RTE1 Easter Sunday. Also, done an interview in support of Spinal Injuries Ireland, which will feature on 'Celebrity Jigs n' Reels' that is also being aired on Easter Sunday on RTE at 6.30pm. Former Miss World Rosanna Davison has chosen to represent this organisation and all the money she raises will go to them. For more information on the magnificant work they do, please visit their website. www.siairl.org And You....... YES, you! *points finger* can help Rosanna by TEXTING "VOTE ROSANNA" TO 53600 OR BY CALLING 1513 71 71 08. (All monies raised go straight to the charity). I've just been asked if I would allow the use of my music to be featured in a 30 second advert which will be going out nationwide for an ADHD support organization. The piece of music which is being chosen is the intro of 'Head over Heels' including the opening lyric, which will be significant to the subject matter. (Nothing is confirmed yet, but I'll update this when I know more.) STAGE PLAY NEWS Just to update on progress with the Play I wrote and will be Directing before Christmas, I've brought James Farrel on board for advice, and perhaps as Co-Director. He's got a wealth of experience with stage productions, and has Directed us in the past with great success. (He's also a highly skilled hairdresser, so I may just request a bit of a trim some time soon. Lord knows I need it!! See 'Pubal TV' for Proof.) haha Right now I'm revising the script, and will hopefully have it completed and approved by James before April 10th. Sorry for the rather random and lifeless update, but I'm really exhausted from a long-ish week, and I was really eager to get this blog up so I can go chillax and put my feet up. Hope anyone that's reading this is feeling good, and looking forward to an enjoyable Easter holiday. Have a great weekend, and chat soon... Paddy Posted by paddy slattery on 30 March 2007 at 14:37 |
