| No news is most certainly good news! |
My phone's been hoppin out of it this morning, apparently i was the subject of "Breaking News" this morning on the radio!! hahaha... oh lordy... heres the story.. "And in other news, Clonbullogue man Paddy Slattery was today granted planning permission from the Offaly County Council, to construct a 'physical therapy unit in his home town.'" .........WTF?????? LMAO... i cant believe it, announced on the news, but unfortunatly this broadcast is misleading to the listeners because now im getting calls from "future clients" inquiring about the therapy on offer etc. Yes im building a physio gym and studio, but it's intended for my own personal use.... and i had to call the radio to make them ammend the statement.. now im just worried that people will think im a selfish git keeping it all to myself!! Im expecting to wake up some morning with a queue a mile long of cripples like myself lookin for sum body maintainance! yikes!!! In OTHER NEWS.... myself and the lads have a gig Friday week, 4th August in THE STABLES in Mullingear! (absolutly petrified as always) cause its a 'breakthrough' venue, where many of Irelands finest have started off their careers! Rehearsals Thursday might put my mind at ease... i hope. Back dyin with a virus, so hopefully my latest dose of medication will sort me out.. i literally got sweat drippin from my forehead as i type this.. arghh.. tis a nusense. and THATS what happenns from lack of physio!!!! Roll on construction!! I'm also back writing scripts, my first love.. lol... well, perhaps more lust... im gonna finish off a short script and get it out there onto producers desks. Exciting times... right, i better go wipe my face... Posted by paddy slattery on 25 July 2006 at 08:09 |
| Un-fashionably Late... |
Feck feck, arse!! I misjudged the traffic today and got to the radio station late for my interview so i missed the 15 minute slot they had for me! Thankfully tho Will managed to squeeze in a brief 5 minute interview before the 12 o clock news... It went well tho, didnt make an arse of myself!! Got a few points across... All the staff in there at MID 103 are delighted with the album too, so hopefully that'll secure more airplay. The gig offers are still coming in thick and fast, which is giving me butterflies already, yet they're a few weeks away! Its so nerve wreckin just thinking about it, but afterwards the relief and satisfaction makes it all worth while!! Also, had a great chat with Roesy (www.roesy.net) about the music industry and everything that goes between. He's so sound, and his advice is amazing!! So massive thanks to him! Ahhhhhh............ getting that Friday feeling again! Looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and hot weather, and i'm headin off now to a bbq to stuff my face and get merry and probablly sing my head off.... AS YA DO! Ciao xx Posted by paddy slattery on 21 July 2006 at 06:44 |
| The story so far... |
| Wow, its gettin hot in herrrrre! Ive just taken off all ma clothes! (ah no, just my t-shirt!) but man oh man isnt it feckin hot out! Brilliant weather, that myself and the gang have been takin advantage of by camping out under the stars in the most strangest places around. Some even reported to be haunted!!! :O/ Anyways, enuff of that..... The last couple of weeks have been an amazing rollercoaster as ya can imagine! I've been actually relaxing, and recharging my batteries, when a lot of music "industry" people are expecting me to be going into over-drive about now, to get the album out there onto every shelf and stage in Ireland. I had never intended on going that road of constantly giging 10 days a week, and begging radio stations everywhere to play my music! What fun would there be in that!? But what I have been doing is trying not to let an opportunity pass me by, and taking this musical journey on my conditions. Lets face it, im no Dustin Timberfake! and id never be physically capable of touring every night without running myself into an early grave....SO...What i've decided to do is accept GIG OFFERS (See NEWS section) and radio interviews etc, and actually enjoy the whole experience, at MY PACE! That sounds fair enough dunnit? :O) Unfortunatly this raises a few problems, because band members would rather a busy scedule, and a steadier income, so my band members wont be able to 100% commit to the plan, plus they each have their own music ventures to persue which is completly understandable! AND exciting, because the talent and potiental of these lads is amazing! Im even confident enough to say, these fellas are going to be the future of Irish contemp music! Paul Skelton, Mark Conway, Ronan Nolan and Ronan Mccaffery! (remember these names!) Sooo.........My next plan of action, is to advertise for stand-by musicians that would be mad up for the odd gig here and there, whenever any of the lads cant make it. Roesy, www.roesy.net and Eamon Henry are hopefully gonna help me out in this department! And if things go to plan, i'll have the freedom to take any gig that comes my way! (by the way..i've just ordered a copy of Roesy's album 'Colour me Colourful' today.. cant wait to hear it, cause a lot of people are saying i kinda sound like him) The comments coming in about the album is still amazing me.. thankfully people are liking it, and even connecting with the stories which is a great feeling! My heads gettin so big its about to EXPLODE!!!.......... in fact, i better end this blog entry before it does..i dont wanna destroy my computer screen! ;o) Posted by paddy slattery on 17 July 2006 at 13:39 |
| Positive Feedback |
| The last few days have been a bit of a shock to the system. I cant believe the ammount of positive feedback on the album! I cant describe the worry i've felt knowing people would be getting to hear and judge something thats so deep and personal to me, so its an unbelievable sense of relief! Roy Gennings of Midlands Radio 3 has just told me that the first radio single 'My Road is Your Road' will be on their playlist, mainly on Tony Christies Breakfeast show, and rotated throughout their station after next week, so im delighted that i'm guaranteed some airplay! He's also setting up an interview, so when i have an exact date, i'll put the information on the NEWS section! Happy days........... just getting some gigs organised now. So hopefully we'll be "On Tour" soon! Posted by paddy slattery on 11 July 2006 at 10:14 |
| Gig 2......... the aftermath! |
| what a feckin night, full of excitement, emotion, nervous energy flying this way and that... We got the gig in Dublin done, and was great, aside from a slight "technical" error at the beginning! the whole band just gelled, and we cut through the setlist with (relative)ease! considering my head was clogged up with a cold! its feckin hard enough to sing 4 big songs in a row with a paralysed diaphgram, but with a blocked nose aswell... sheesh...i had a bit of a panic after the first song cause i was feeling light-headed, and thought my voice sounded nasselly, but thankfully i relaxed a bit and settled in to it... everyone enjoyed themselves, so it was a definate success! and it was great being back in the old NRH, meeting old friends and staff that took care of me when i was a wee brat of 17. almost 10 years to the day, unbelievable how time flies! but what an amazing 10 years all the same!!! me heads a bit ropey today, cause we all came back to my gaff for an "after-party" thee most exclusive event on the showbiz calander!! they dont call me P-diddy for nothin ;o) CDs are available in Stores in the midlands from today, so hopefully the album artwork will catch a few eyes, and jump off the shelves into their cd players! *crosses limbs* we'll see how it goes i guess.... time will tell.. our priority is to now secure gigs, and radio airplay! and after the way we played last night, im looking forward to our next show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | exausted.... |
| absolutly wrecked with a head cold and tempreture! i knew a spell of ill health would eventually catch me up, im just hoping i can shake it off b4 tomorrow nights gig in NRH in Dublin! the local papers 'Offaly Topic', 'Offaly Independent', 'Offaly Express' and 'Tullamore Tribune' have nice articles about the album launch today! the feckin head of me in the pics tho...*sigh* [Big up to Eoghan McConell and Olga Aughey] its an amazing experience getting positive feedback from anyone thats heard the album.. its strange, cause for so long i've tried to keep it from everyone, now all i want is for as many people as possible to hear it! POSSIBLE GIG lined up in the near future, in 'The Stables' in Mullingear, when its confirmed i'll update the news section! latest dvd purchase was 'Capote' starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman. very moving film, and beautiful cinematography and music. was a great relief to switch off and get lost in two hours of masterful storytelling! | first EVER gig! |
Finally got the big launch gig done!! oh man, such a relief! the whole night was a mad rush, with photographers snapping from every angle. couldnt believe the turn out. i was told we got a crowd of about 500 there that night. the performance started off a bit shakey, cause we were gettin used to the sound set-up during the first few songs, since we didnt get time for a sound check.. the feckin hotel staff let us down big time! plus, my nerves had my stomach turning, so it took me a while to build my confidence on stage... but we mastered it eventually, and the crowd loved it! thank god... ahh, such an amazing experience! i honestly dont know where i got the energy from... all that day i was so tired and thought id not complete the setlist, but they couldnt get me off the stage, we sang about 4 encoures... was great seing all my mates and producers of the album there.. really was an honor to sing for everyone. I ALSO GOT THE KOOOOOLEST PRESENT!! David feckin Gray i love you!! ughhh lord, i couldnt believe it. he wrote on his album "dear paddy, good luck with your album. wishing you every success.. D.G. " WOW.. thats crazy.... i sang two of his songs on the setlist, which was planned a while back.. so it was an amazing feeling knowing he was wishing me well, while i was singing his classic songs to a packed audience! sooo soo much has gone on this weekend, and i ended up at my mates stag do in galways for two nights also.. i literally havent had an sleep sjince wednesday night. and at that i couldnt take my mind off the launch.. im so relieved its all over............. but id gladly do it all again in the morning!! thank you to all my friends for the amazing support on that night.. especially Caoimhe! my #1 fan ;o) BRING ON THE NEXT GIG!!
